The Alto Adige wine region is a series of steep valleys in the southern Tyrol, where one of the principal red grapes is the Lagrein. To quote Eric Asimov of the New York Times, the Lagrein grape makes a wine that is ". . .congenial, straightforward, and deliciously plummy, earthy and chewy, dark and full-bodied but not heavy, with a pronounced minerally edge." Yum yum. Easy drinking and versatile.
